Three years ago, my older sister was applying to universities. There was a month long period where she had her heart set on Bishop’s. One of the most important things to her was, in her own words, “Their school colour is purple, and I look good in purple!”
When it came time for me to choose a post-secondary institution, my decision was not so rooted in fashion. But it was also hard to ignore the fact that I possessed nothing in my closet that was forest green or gold.
Since nobody wants to wear their Welcome Week t-shirt to every school event for the next four years, I’d have to get a little creative.
School spirit is a great way to take advantage of the coloured denim trend, now making its way into fall with warmer hues. Garage offers jeggings in both STU’s green and gold hues (Garage stores or Garage.ca, $39.90-44.90). Either shade would look great with a STU t-shirt or hoodie from the campus bookstore.
Lucky for us Tommies, gold jewelry always seems to be in style. Look no further than your favourite accessory boutique. I’ve already fallen for a certain pair of gold heart studs from Claire’s. Just remember to choose function over fashion. Make sure your accessories are practical for something like a soccer game.
Brace for the colder weather with STU-approved knitwear. Just fifteen dol¬lars at Ardene can get you two adorable knit berets in green and golden yellow. A pair of high green socks looks perfect paired with boots and will keep you warm whether you’re outdoors or in the hockey rink. Come October, be sure to visit Kaga Knits in Fredericton’s famous Boyce Farmer’s Market for co¬lourful handmade mittens and scarves, which are also handy for those freezing walks across campus in the wintertime.
